Creating art is a healing process for me. The actual process of painting allows me to feel relieved and rejuvenated by using an expressive visual vocabulary. From painting I gain strength to tackle the confusion of life, reminding myself that fear and change are closely related. I wish to pass this tool of creation on to others.
While painting, an intuitive response to color interaction takes over. In my current work, I explore the weight and gravity of acrylic paint utilizing it’s viscosity to generate varied results. These works are created by applying acrylic paint, no longer with brushes, to raw canvas. The canvas has been saturated to differing degrees with water. Paint is then added to the surface and as it bleeds and drips down the canvas, water is used to increase flow or remove pigment. When I feel a piece is complete, I refrain from signing my paintings, believing a signature distracts the eye and detracts from the overall composition.
The hues represent emotions that are ever changing, the content being a personal connection with the color’s energy and the bleeding and dripping of hues. Through painting I try to find visual indicators for the abstract elements of my world. By exploring the possibilities of expression, I create to satisfy my visual senses. My intentions are to express those abstract elements that words are not capable of. Using line, color and form I am able to process conscious and unconscious aspects of my life.
